The Shows Set To Begin

July 1, 2004

The organizers of Malaysia’s largest equestrian shows, Premier Cup Series, Malaysian Open and Merdeka Masters announced today that the competitions will run according to the schedule (July-August 2004) despite of confirmed report of an outbreak of Strangles in the country.

The outbreak was reported two weeks ago when the Malaysia's National Stud Farm was placed under the quarantine after a mare died of strangles, a highly contagious equine disease. Followed this news, the organizers did not receive any official information that the disease was spreading to other parts of the country.

Malaysian Open and Merdeka Masters Event Director Quzier Ambak commented, "We are prepared to receive all the horses as long as they tested negative for Strangles. The horse owners and club managers will have to arrange for the sampling test and obtain the official letter certified the negative result for strangles before horses will be allowed to enter the competition premises".
