Where champions rule

July 7, 2004

It is that time of the year again when the prestigious Malaysian Open and Merdeka Masters equestrian tournaments showcase the culmination of grace and strength of over 100 participating horses and the masterful skill of riders from South East Asia, Europe and Australasia, in their quest for glory.

This year promises to be another class act. Another year when the organizers, Equestrian Promotion Sdn Bhd (EPSB), invite all to witness the relentless zeal of the riders combined with the graceful stride of the studs set against a background of fanfare and festivities. Both the Malaysian Open and Merdeka Masters are part of the series of the SEA World Cup League, in which the victor of the league qualifies to participate in the World Cup Finals, held annually in Europe.

As the Centre saddles-up for some of the world’s most elegant equestrian performances, it will also prepare to play host to some 10,000 visiting public as they join in the fiesta-like celebrations. From witnessing show jumping prowess to experiencing the elegant dressage events, it is sure to be an occasion for every individual to enjoy. Visitors will be treated to an array of side events, such as traditional folk dances, brass-band performances as well as traditional games to take part in. Many a visitor may come for many a reason, but what rests assured is that everyone will experience intense, exciting and heart-stopping moments of the tournaments.

The stage is set. The objective is in view. EPSB, through these tournaments aim to unearth more local equestrian talents and to expose them to the grinds of international competitions. EPSB has set out to bring the best of the world to Malaysia, presenting our budding athletes an avenue to compete at higher levels. It is our ultimate quest to birth national champions at the 2005 SEA Games, the 2006 Asian Games, and to give Malaysia a realistic opportunity to excel at the 2008 Olympic Games.

As we tread along, we plan to have fun too. Do accept this as our personal invitation to accompany us in this exciting journey, beginning of course in August 2004, at this year’s Malaysian Open and Merdeka Masters.
