Premier Cup Series'04, held on 29th July –1 st August at Bukit Kiara Resort Berhad, Kuala Lumpur.
Another successful Premier Cup Series 2004 and SEA World Cup League. Thanks to the strong commitment of Abdul Razak Latiff and the ARL Group, the show went on in the midst of the lingering "Strangles scare".
Where do we begin? Top class international riders and their horses started arriving from the 26th July from Hong Kong, Philippines, Indonesia, Australia and other equestrian places of Malaysia. The obvious absentees were Thailand and Singapore. There were 660 entries, 173 horses and 135 riders - there was the luscious beautiful green grass arenas of Bukit Kiara polo field, sunshine (except for a short thunderstorm on Saturday afternoon), almost idyllic.
Dressage - over 200 entries! Championships were over the 4-day events-for Medium/Advance, the champion was Eva Frantzich (Bukit Kiara) on Castor followed closely by Quzandria Nur (3Q) on Grey Cottage, for Elementary-champion Christine Fiege (ARIA) on Street of Paris, Reserve Champion Ellesse Tzinberg (Riders Lodge) on Priscilla. For Novice-Champion Joanne Lai (ARIA) on Trooper, Reserve Champion Yasmin Fabiny (Bukit Kiara) on Shannon (not far behind was young Super Conqueror on his maiden show ridden by Ellesse-Riders Lodge) and for Preliminary-champion Yasmin Fabiny (Bukit Kiara) on Thank You Boss and Group B ChampionYasmin Venema (Leisure Farm) on After Dark. Not even a spectacular thunderstorm and shrieking of kids could dampen the performance of the elegant dressage riders-real professionals!
In Medium, it was great to watch the "Stars" and the Rising Stars-dressage stars Eva (Sweden), Quzandria (MAS), Zehan Marissa (MAS), Christine (GER) showed the rising stars 16-year-old Nur Iman (MAS) and 12-year-old Ellesse Tzinberg (MAS) the way!
Show jumping – over 400 entries. Thursday saw the start with “Clear Round” and true to its name and with special thanks to the course designer John Valance, majority got clear rounds. And the show began…
Equitation classes (50cm-80cm and 90 cm-100cm) a sweep by young Ellesse Tzinberg on her horses Priscilla and Sarabago. Congratulations!

Open 100-115cm Open treasure ( Magali Tong, followed by her 13 year old
sister Gaelle on Capital Star, both from Hong Kong). Gaelle came second
again in the 90cm-105cm, definitely a rider to be watched in show jumping!
Winner of the Young Rider is Hafiz on La
Bonita and for the Ladies Cup, Quzandria on Penrose Witchity. Another pony
speedy young rider to watch is Shazna (3Q) on Big Ben, winner of AM7
90cm-100cm (what about the young Faridah with her evil Knievel ride!) and
the Premier Classic was won by Qabil on Red Cloud. The Team Competition
crown was retained by DBKL. (Congratulations, it must be all that practice
in crime prevention).
By 10:00 am, everyone eyes were glued to the jumping arena waiting to cheer their favourite World Cup riders. Toni Leviste, PHIL won the SEA World Cup League riding old time favorite, Globe Platinum Leap of Faith (Mare/Gray/1987). Other elite riders who gained world cup points were Syed Omar, Syed Mohsin, Qabil Ambak, Quzier Ambak, Alla Poloumieva of SIN, and Chris Ladbrook of NZ.
Another successful Premier Cup (thank you Show Director Nina Melkonian and her ARL staff ) and for the poor riders suffering from the competition bug-congratulations and see you all at the Malaysian Open! |
