FEI WORLD CUP JUMPING FINAL IN MILAN

There is only a bit more than 50 days to go before the FEI World Cup Jumping Final which will be held in Milan (Italy). For the first time of the over twenty-years-long history of the FEI Jumping World Cup the 2004 final will take place in Italy where, from 21 to 24 April, the world's best riders and horses will compete in the arena of the Forum of Assago, located in the outskirts of Milan, some 15 minutes from the city centre. Started in 1979, the World Cup Final is an annual showdown among the top international riders. Approximately 45 riders, including many past and future Olympians, qualify from 13 leagues around the world.

The 2004 FEI Jumping World Cup finals will be organised by the Italian National Equestrian Federation (FISE) in conjunctions with Media Partners and MKA, two experienced organisers of events that have been partners of FISE for the last few years in the organisation of the CSIO of Rome - Piazza di Siena.

Since a few days from the official opening of the Box Office of the 2004 FEI Jumping World Cup Final is very successful. In order to book tickets, memberships or to reserve exclusive seats at the VIP tables overlooking the competition ring, a dedicated phone line is now available: +39 06 638 3818. FEI VET COURSE AT OLYMPIC MUSEUM

The FEI is pleased to announce that a course for FEI Event Veterinarians will be organised in Lausanne (SUI) from 1 - 4 July 2004 at the Musée Olympique de Lausanne. The course will be directed by Dr. Frits Sluyter, Head of FEI Veterinary Department. The course will consist of two parts:

- The first part will be a theoretical approach to veterinary management during FEI competitions based on the FEI regulations.
- The second part will be based on practical experience as the course will hopefully be held during the CIC** in Ecublens. For further details on the programme and/or registration, please contact: Fédération Equestre Internationale, Anne Wuillemin-Kaltenrieder a.kaltenrieder@horsesport.org.

IN MEMORIAM

Norman Elder, who rode twice for Canada in the Olympic Games, died at the end of last year, aged 64. The younger brother of six-time Olympian Jimmy Elder competed in the Olympic Three-Day Events of 1960 in Rome, and in 1968 in Mexico City. Norman Elder also won three medals at two Pan American Games: in 1959 he was third individually on Prince Maple, and won team gold; in 1967 he finished second individually, riding Ranae Doe.

Elder then became an adventurer and carried out expeditions to the Amazon, the Congo, Papua New Guinea, the Arctic and Madagascar. He wrote several books about his exploits.
