It was an early start for the officials and competitors for the first equestrian competition day of the Indonesian Olympiad, PON XVI. The first event of the day was the Team Dressage Competition held at 8am in the morning in the beautiful covered arena in the newly built Muba Equestrian Centre.

The judges for the dressage competitions were Alison King (Hong Kong), Margrit Hoffman (Germany) and Suzie Hoevenaar (Australia) as a President of the Grand Jury.

5 teams, 24 riders started in the competition riding the Regional Games FEI Preliminary Competition Test. On Thursday, all the riders had a chance to ride in a friendly warm-up class to familiarize with the new environment and to prepare for the today competition.

Jawa Barat Team

Jolfie Momongan on Bima (Jawa Barat team) was twelfth to enter the arena and the first rider to score over 60 per cent. With his performance of 65.22 he immediately increased his team’s chances for the first place.

The Kalimantan Timur rider Roy Ibrahim was the unanimous victor with all three judges, and on 68.22%, he scored one per cent higher then the Indonesian dressage queen Jeanne Lukito (Jawa Barat) on her horse Pizzaz Girande (67.11).

Kalimantan Timur was in the lead before the fourth rider of Jawa Barat team rode his test. Endarjanto Bambang was the second last rider in the arena. After a very disappointing ride in the warm-up class the day before, Endarjanto produced a harmonious performance with his mount Cherenton Armani to the best result of the day - 68.56. It was left to Endarjanto to secure the win of Jawa Barat with a score of 66.96. “He rode very good, under a lot of pressure”, said his Australian trainer, Brett Parbery. “Yesterday the horse was spooky and unsettled, and we had to focus on getting the horse’s attention back to the rider. I am very happy with their performance today.”

Kalimantan Timur won their silver medal with a score of 63.37, pushing the DKI Jakarta team back to bronze.
