TEAM SHOWJUMPING COMPETITION

Twenty-five competitors from 7 teams participated in the Team Jumping Competition over two rounds.

Jawa Barat Team

Only four riders from four different teams cleared the course without a rail down in the first round. Jawa Barat team achieved a leading position with a difference of two rails (8 faults) in front of the Kalimantan Timur team and the second round was important to hold this position. In the second round the Jawa Barat riders collected 8 penalties and for a short time it was a hope for the Kalimantan Timur team. However, all three KalTim’s riders dropped the rail in the last obstacle finishing second round with 12 penalties and had to be satisfied with the Silver medal in the Showjumping Team Competition.

The Team Bronze Medal went to Jawa Timur team.

Kalimantan Timur Team

INDIVIDUAL SHOWJUMPING COMPETITION

The Individual Showjumping Competition started on Monday, September 06, at 9am in the morning and also was held over the two rounds.

Course designer Paul Weier set a tough first-round track which riders found a bit tricky and only one horse-and-rider combination left all the fences intact to secure the leading position. The last rider in the arena, Jojo Jonathan on Gonzo finished the first round with zero penalties.

Kurnado Mustopo on Cidoal De Genetre, Wempy Kaunang on Maximillian and Andry Prasetyo on Domingo, all collected 4 faults when in the ring.

Great riding by Rafiq Radinal and superb jumping from his Isabelle sealed them a victory in the Friendly Competition held two days ago and they were among the crowd’s favorites. Unfortunately, they managed to gain 12 penalties during the first Individual round and clearly were out of the medal reach despite of the brilliant faultless second round.

The second round of the Individual competition produced 3 clear rounds from Rafiq Radinal (Isabelle), Kurnadi Mustopo (Cidoal De Genetre) and Nengah (King Wolfgang). Jojo Jonathan, the best riders from the first round, was again the last into the ring. He was considered a winner of the Gold medal till he literally came unstuck at the third fence, an oxer, when the horse seemed a little deep and decided to stop. Unfortunately for him, he was eliminated from the competition. Kurnadi Mustopo on Cidoal De Genetre moved to the first place with total of 4 penalty points.

Two riders had the same 8 penalties and the spectators in the Muba Equestrian Centre were treated to a thrilling jump-off for the Individual Silver medal. The battle took place between the Jawa Timur teammates Nengah on King Wolfgang and Wempy Kaunang on Maximillian. Nengah put down a faster round with 3 poles down, which secured him the second place pushing Wempy (14 faults) to third.

Those watching today’s competition were indeed treated to a great sporting moment. The crowds loved show jumping and they were fantastic to the riders. The numbers of people (4000) attended the showjumping events at the Muba Equestrian Centre’s Arena show the huge interest of the sport in the Indonesian Games.
