Hailing from Ipoh, Perak Darul Ridzuan, the “gentle-man” has made himself probably the most indispensable member of the Malaysian Equestrian Scene.

In his early years, he took the long road into veterinary sciences, having already achieved two degrees in Mechanical Engineering and Science Microbiology. We should all thank our lucky stars for this great man’s seemingly unexpected entry into the world of horsey healthcare.

Since graduating, he has not stood still. His diverse post graduate education is a largely on-going process in his life. He has gone on to attend post graduate training almost every year in some of the most respected veterinary universities all over the world, ranging from courses in Dentistry, Respiratory Diseases, Equine Endurance, Opthalmology and, most imperitive in Malaysia, Foot Care.

He has represented Malaysia as the team veterinarian in numerous prestigious events including the 13th Asian Games held in Bangkok, Thailand and the 14th Asian Games in Busan, Korea. He was the president of the Veterinary Commission for the KL Grand Prix 2003 and 2004. He also officiated as the treating veterinarian at the Sydney Olympics 2000 and the 21st South East Asian Games 2001 in Kuala Lumpur. He was elected the President of the Veterinary Commission for the Word Cup South East Asia Leagues 2001,2002 & 2003, Malaysia (CSI-W), (FEI). Besides the World Endurance Championships in Compeign, France, he also officiated at several other endurance events in UK, Spain, Portugal as well as the Tom Quilty 160km Gold Cup yearly event in Australia.

Dr. Bala was rewarded as a Best Vet at this year's Equestrian Promotions annual Equestrian Gala Dinner at the Palace of the Golden Horses, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on the 4th October.
