The EFI wishes to clarify that it did not make details of the case of a prohibited substance trace in the horse ABC Landliebe ridden by Cian O'Connor at this stage because Mr. O'Connor has still a window of due process open to him in this instance.
Being the Irish affliliate of Federation Equestre Internationale (FEI), the EFI is actually the prosecutory body in these instances and it is our policy to allow due process before making specific pronouncements about cases.
Indeed it is the policy of the FEI, and thereby the EFI, that the name of a horse in such cases is never released until all due process has been pursued. Only at the specific request of a rider concerned is the horse's name released prior to the completion of due process, and in the case of Waterford Crystal Mr. O'Connor asked last week that this name be made public, such was his concern with the implications for his Olympic achievement.
Mr. O'Connor has now chosen independently to make public certain details in the case of ABC Landliebe and we respect fully his wishes to do so.
However, until due process has been exhausted in the cases of both ABC Landliebe and Waterford Crystal, the EFI is legally obliged to exercise extreme caution in what it makes public on these matters.
