Oct 9, 2004
The preferent KWPN stallion Voltaire has died at De Watermolen in Haaksbergen August13, 2004. The Hannoverian, that became world famous through the KWPN (The Royal Warmblood Studbook of the Netherlands), was 25 years old.
Voltaire was one of the most influential stallions in international sport breeding. He himself jumped internationally at the highest level. With Jos Lansink, he won the Grand Prix of Berlin in 1989. According to the World Breeding Federation for Sporthorses, a large number internationally jumping offspring of Voltaire are registered. Past generation horses were Especiale, Finessse, Altaire and Play it Again, but also the present-day start list still knows many Voltaire offspring, such as Kannan and Lemato.
In breeding, foundation stallion Voltaire has emphatically left his mark via the also preferent Concorde. But the power of his heritability of Voltaire is shown especially by the breadth of its influence. Via Farmer, came the Olympic reserve Lowina; via Equador an Olympic dressage stallion - Idocus. This also means that Voltaire was also able to improve general riding horse qualities and every now and then produced a good dressage horse. Frozen semen is available from stallions from the KWPN.
Dutch warmblood horses, famous for their character, soundness and athletic ability, are exported to all corners of the globe, and are international winners under the flags of many different nations in international competitions and Olympic Games.
At least one of Voltaire’s daughters is now in Asia – approved mare Isabelle (Arthayasa Stables & Breeding Farm, Jakarta, Indonesia).
