Category A

The day kicked off with a bang as Jennifer Chang, on her talented six year old thoroughbred "Sport Seeker" jumped a clean first round, and an even better second round to end the day with zero faults. This was followed by a face familiar to those competing in the Malaysian circuit, the young Magali Tong on her wonderful mount "Open Treasure". Magali jumped a very professional and convincing first round, however unfortunately ran a little deep to an oxer in the second and occurred four faults in the jump off.

Next came the gifted duo, Magali's younger sister Gaelle atop her little chestnut horse "Capital Star" who despite not being in the ring for several months due to a back muscle strain flew around the track with ease. The pair jumped a super round however had an unlucky four faults in each round, but a very good effort after his layoff. The pair stormed the Malaysian circuit last year sweeping the blue rosette for the South East Asia Young Rider World Cup Tour.

Following this was Tara Delaney on her older horse "Gagnant", who rode a very careful round to finish the day with two secure, clean rounds. Next in the ring was the sixteen year old talent Kenneth Cheng, a beautifully stylish rider who has been training with current World Champion Dermott Lennon, and Chris Chugg in Australia. Kenneth put his new horse Jay Bee Schultz, recently purchased from Chris to the test. This is the first real competitive show jumping horse imported to Hong Kong, and has only been allowed by the Jockey Club in order to raise the standard of jumping. Affectionately known as "Schultzee" to his owner, and fresh out of quarantine, he clipped a rail in each round to end on 8 faults. However, it won't be long until we see him kicking the lights out. On Schultzee's agenda is the all China games in October 2005, followed by the World Cup Tour in Malaysia in 2006.

The second day started off on a hot and humid note, which added to the tension already mounting in the warm up arena. Jennifer, Gaelle and Tara all jumped first-rate clear rounds well within the time, setting the standard for the next competitors. Unfortunately for Magali, a slight deviation from the track (she got lost) incurred her one time penalty. Little Capital Star bounced back in full form ending the day with a brilliant double clear round. Magali's second round was better, as she managed to stay on track without getting lost. Last two competitors to go were Jennifer and Tara, who both worked out how fast they had to go in the second round to stay on top. However, as Jennifer was already 5 seconds faster in the first round, Tara had no chance of beating Jennifer. Both jumped great clear rounds, sneaking in under Quzier Ambak's time to clinch first and second place overall.

Jennifer, out first, jumped a skilful clear round under an unpressured 40.71 seconds. Tara then followed, and rode very carefully for a clear round just under Quzier's time. The ecstatic trainer, Stuart Mitchell could not resist texting Quzier to tell him the news, to which Quzier replied "Wow! Tell her Well Done!! Looks like she'll be ready for the World Cup this year. We will have to have a rematch. : ) ".

Well done to the girls for a great performance!

Category B

Category B, with fewer competitors saw the teen talent, Kenneth Cheng atop his chestnut horse "Bold Saxon" take the lead for the championship for the time being. The pair jumped 3 clean rounds over the two days, however had an unlucky four faults in the first round of the second day.

Category C

Category C had 23 starters, and was the largest category, won again by Kenneth Cheng on his young thoroughbred Kin Fortune. He jumped neatly and cleanly in the first round, however the slippery footing cost him four faults in the jump off of the second round. Kenneth came back on the second day and the pair jumped a double clear to end the day in overall second place, right behind Elise Tzinberg from Malaysia on Sarabago.
